Successful RYCO Youth Exchange: Digital Guardians
The recent RYCO Youth Exchange, held from May 26 to June 1, 2024, in Popova Shapka, North Macedonia, concluded with resounding success. Twenty enthusiastic young participants from North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, and Serbia gathered for a week-long event dedicated to fostering online safety and digital citizenship. The youth exchange, part of the “Digital Guardians” project, emphasized creativity, collaboration, and advocacy, leaving a lasting impact on both participants and the broader community.
Active Participation and Creative Campaigns
Throughout the week, participants were deeply engaged in various group activities and workshops. Their involvement was particularly notable in the creation of a video campaign addressing the critical issue of cyberbullying. This project allowed them to unleash their creativity, resulting in compelling and thought-provoking content designed to raise awareness and promote safer online environments.
Presentations in Local Languages
In addition to their creative endeavors, the participants also prepared a presentation in their local languages. This presentation is set to be disseminated in schools across the participating countries, ensuring that the knowledge and insights gained during the exchange reach a broader audience. By presenting in their native languages, the participants ensured the material would be accessible and impactful within their local communities.
A Holistic Approach to Learning
The agenda of the exchange was meticulously crafted to balance formal and informal learning methods. Workshops on digital literacy, cybersecurity, media literacy, and cyberbullying were interspersed with team-building activities and intercultural exchanges. This comprehensive approach not only equipped participants with essential knowledge but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and mutual understanding among them.
Hiking and Mountain Surroundings
Amidst the intensive learning sessions, participants also had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful mountain surroundings of Popova Shapka. Hiking trips allowed them to relax, bond with peers, and appreciate the natural beauty of the region, adding a refreshing and invigorating dimension to the exchange experience.
Empowering Youth for a Better Digital Future
The “Digital Guardians” project, supported by RYCO, aimed to empower and educate youth on online safety and digital citizenship. By enhancing digital literacy, promoting cybersecurity awareness, encouraging intercultural exchange, and empowering youth advocacy, the project sought to cultivate a generation of responsible and resilient digital users.
